Epiphany School Announces Next Head of School

Dear Epiphany Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am honored and excited to announce the appointment of Jennifer B. Elkin as the next Head of Epiphany School, effective July 1, 2017. The Board voted unanimously in favor of Ms. Elkin’s appointment following the enthusiastic and unanimous recommendation of the Search Committee.
Ms. Elkin brings rich experience as a teacher and leader in an elementary school setting; knowledge of both academic and social-emotional curriculum; familiarity with best practices in teaching and learning; and a strategic understanding of independent school operations, including academic programs, admissions, marketing, financial management. She impressed the Search Committee and the community with her wisdom, warmth, collaborative style, engaging personality, and, most importantly, her commitment to our school’s mission and values. We are confident that Ms. Elkin has the experience, skills, and vision necessary to ensure Epiphany School thrives for years to come.

A highly regarded educational leader, Ms. Elkin is in her sixth year as Head of Lower School at The Pike School in Andover, Massachusetts. She joined the school in 2000 and taught second grade for seven years and fifth grade for three years before moving into her current role. She previously worked as a Training Director with The Open Circle Program, which is based at Wellesley College and provides social and emotional learning curricula and professional development in elementary schools. Ms. Elkin spent the first fifteen years of her career as an Associate and, later, a Principal with Synectics, a leading authority on the human dynamics of creativity, innovation, and collaboration, in which she provided consulting services in creative problem-solving skills, innovation, organizational change, and strategic visioning processes. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Language from Georgetown University and two Master of Education degrees in Elementary Education and Curriculum and Instruction respectively from Lesley University.

Epiphany’s Head of School opening attracted interest from a remarkable number of accomplished school leaders across the country, and Ms. Elkin’s appointment is the result of a thorough and thoughtful search process that began in January of this year. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Andy Baker, Chair of the Search Committee, and the other members of the committee for their commitment and service, which were critical to the success of the search. Thanks are also due to the faculty, staff, parents, board members, and others who met with the finalist candidates and provided valuable feedback to the Search Committee.

Although Ms. Elkin will not take office until next summer, she and her husband, Ross, will visit Epiphany over the coming months to learn more about our school and meet with faculty, staff, parents, and students. We look forward to having the Elkins become part of our community and hope that you will help us welcome Jenn and Ross to Epiphany and Seattle!
